2nd Sydney Women’s International Poetry Festival 2015

The Woman Scream International Poetry Festival (Grito de Mujer) is a worldwide cultural non-profit chain of events coordinated by the Women Poet’s International Movement (Movimiento Mujeres Poetas Internacional), based in the Dominican Republic. It is the brain-child of Dominican poet, Jael Uribe. The director of the festival in Sydney Australia is Saba Vasefi, an Iranian/Australian documentary filmmaker, poet, and human rights activist. Saba staged this event for the first time in March 20014 at the Sydney Grace Hotel.

Woman Scream has been a vehicle for the voice of hundreds poets and artists in over thirty different countries to be heard. Its goal is to raise awareness of important issues, such as violence against women, and to foster the self-esteem of women worldwide. The festival encourages both men and women to do this by using their most creative tools - words and art.

Woman Scream events run world-wide throughout March, which is International Women’s Month. In 2015, the festival will take place in Sydney on:

Date: 6 March
Time: 6:30pm -10pm.
Where: Treasury Room, Sydney Town Hall, 483 George St Sydney, NSW

We would like to hear from individuals and groups who are interested in performing at the festivalWe are looking for submissions which advocate for women's rights and speak out against violence towards women via: poetry; film; photography; art; music; dance; installations; cross-platform creations; collaborations, and more.

Both men and women are encouraged to submit, however all projects must have a relationship to women's rights.
